On Sunday evening, around 7:40 p.m. a motorcycle accident left a man critically injured. According to the Las Vegas Sun, the motorcyclist lost control and was thrown to the ground. The Las Vegas Metro Police reported this morning that the man was taking to University Medical Center in critical condition. Police officers on scene stated that the evidence and witness statements suggest the driver lost control of his 2007 Suzuki motorcycle. The investigation is ongoing, and investigators are trying to determine why he lost control.
Motorcycle accidents are serious and can often result in critical injuries, through no fault of the driver. In 2006, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that motorcycles have a higher fatality rate in accidents when compared with other automobiles. Does this mean motorcycles are less safe than other vehicles? Not necessarily. Even where a motorcyclist is driving cautiously and safely, he is still at risk from other automobile drivers. And even where a motorcyclist is driving safely, if a larger car is driven negligently and collides with a motorcycle, unfortunately the motorcyclist may suffer severe injuries.
