A Clark County grand jury recently indicted the four suspects accused of kidnapping a 17-year old girl in Henderson. Alejandro Sanchez-Sanchez, Cesar Sanchez, Mariano Sanchez-Sanchez, and Jose Sanchez-Perez must now face charges of first-degree kidnapping, burglary and extortion. Bail was set at $2 million and the suspects will be arraigned on November 6th.
On August 31, Melissa Dunn was standing in front of her home when two men grabbed her. Later that day, Melissa’s family received a phone call demanding a ransom in exchange for Melissa’s return. Tracking cell phone calls and texts, Henderson Police and special agents from Homeland Security, tracked down leads, which included personal items Melissa deliberately left in the kidnappers’ car and apartment. Melissa learned this trick from watching the CBS hit TV show – CSI – which is set in Las Vegas.
Sanchez-Sanchez, Sanchez, and Melissa were found in an apartment complex on Flower Avenue, near Stewart and Eastern Avenue in Las Vegas. Mariano Sanchez-Sanchez was arrested five days later. A fourth suspect, Jose Sanchez-Perez, was caught after he fled Las Vegas and went to Vallejo, CA.
According to Melissa’s father, Sanchez-Perez worked for his landscaping company until he was fired or quit. Mr. Dunn also believes the four men are cousins. A federal immigration hold has been put in place for all four kidnapping suspects. In Nevada, legal aliens may be deported if convicted of an aggravated felony, drug crime, firearm crime, domestic violence, or a crime of moral turpitude.
In Nevada, individuals convicted of first degree kidnapping can be imprisoned up to life without the possibility of parole. Individuals convicted of burglary or extortion can be punishable up to 10 years.
