A Las Vegas mother, Etsegenet K. Welday, 39 has been charged with the abuse and murder of her one year old son.
On March 22, the Las Vegas Fire and Rescue Department were summoned to the 2600 block of Red Rock Street in Las Vegas, where they found one year old Noah Behre was not breathing. His lips were blue. His body was cold, and he was in full cardiac arrest. CPR was administered after which Noah was transported to University Medical Center. He was pronounced dead an hour later.
According to the police report filed by the Metropolitan Las Vegas Police Department (MLVPD), Welday said her son started throwing up in his playpen earlier that day. After cleaning him up, she fed Noah some macaroni and cheese. He only ate two spoonfuls so she gave him some whole milk. Later, while watching television, Noah began to throw up again. She took his temperature but it was normal. However, at some point she decided to give Noah a bath. The bath was cold because she did not have heated water. Noah then started vomiting again, but when he stopped he went to sleep on the couch. Later, Welday noticed Noah’s breathing was faint and he was gasping for air. At that point she called 911.
The police report also included a statement from Welday’s downstairs neighbor who said her apartment was damaged when water from Welday’s apartment flooded her apartment.
Though she had no paperwork to prove it, Welday also told MLVPD that after one of Noah’s vomiting episodes, she took him to a UMC Quick Care Center. There a nurse checked his vitals, said he was okay, and then released him with no medication.
Welday, who also has a 3 year old daughter, was charged with murder, child abuse, and neglect with substantial bodily harm. She is being held in the Clark County Detention Center.
